Note
- "Kindling and blessing of the Sabbath candles" from "King of the scroungers/beggars." Yiddish theatricals frequently featured religious rituals and Jewish holidays. Such performances served for audiences as a vicarious observance of Jewish traditiions. Many people had to work late on Fridays and all day on Saturdays, and so could not celebrate the Jewish Sabbath as a holy day of rest. Source: Heskes, Irene, Yiddish American Popular Songs 1895-1950.
