Summary

• This book is an academic monograph. It uses a combination of multidisciplinary research methods such as history, archaeology, historical geography, and ethnology to study and explore three typical issues in the establishment of border politics and border officials in the Western Regions during the Han Dynasty, the construction of the garrison system, and the construction of the frontier military defense system. It proposes that the special management model of the Han Dynasty in the Western Regions is not only a reflection of the local political situation during that period, but also closely related to the natural geography, social economy and ethnic composition, customs and habits, and military situation of the region. The management of the Western Regions in the Han Dynasty set a precedent in Chinese history and set a model for the development of the Western Regions by future generations. Later dynasties strengthened the management of the Western Regions on the basis of the Han Dynasty, making the Western Regions always a part of China's unified territory.
